Steel Blitz Facade Scaffold – Mathenesserplein, Rotterdam

Structural analysis and verification of an elevated Steel Blitz facade scaffold with lattice girders, supporting towers and a checkerboard anchoring arrangement.

Mathenesserplein, Rotterdam, the Netherlands 40 m height 28 Jul 2026

Project Overview

AR-TEC completed the structural analysis and verification of a Steel Blitz facade scaffold at Mathenesserplein in Rotterdam.

The main scaffold was elevated on temporary braced support towers, with lattice girders transferring the loads between the available supporting positions. This created a critical load-transfer zone requiring careful assessment of the girders, supporting towers, bracing members and base reactions.

A staggered checkerboard anchoring pattern was used across the facade to distribute wind forces, control lateral displacement and provide the required restraint to the scaffold frames.

The complete structure was modelled and analysed in SCIA Engineer. The assessment included nonlinear behaviour, second-order effects, member capacity, buckling, wind pressure and suction, anchor forces, lattice girder performance, support reactions and overall stability.

The analysis established a clear load path from the upper Steel Blitz scaffold through the lattice girders and supporting towers to the base supports, confirming the structural safety and stability of the complete arrangement.
